Brazil SCOPE Tour in Review

This fall, Vice Chair Eric Loudon and Craig Earnshaw led a SCOPE Tour to Recife, Brazil. SCOPE Tours provide donors the opportunity to meet members of the Academy, visit member-owned businesses, participate in Q&A panels, offer entrepreneurial advice, and sit in on leadership training and chapter meetings. This year’s visit was a great success!

During the tour, the Academy hosted several in-person meetings in Pernambuco. These events included training sessions for volunteer chapter presidencies, devotionals, the “Start Now” course, and business visits.

These were incredible events, during which dedicated and committed students gathered to pursue self-sufficiency through entrepreneurship. These meetings provided a valuable opportunity for learning and networking, further strengthening the entrepreneurial community of the Academy in Pernambuco.

Additionally, the local Academy leadership launched PodEmpreender, a podcast dedicated to entrepreneurs, filled with valuable insights and tips to guide those looking to start or already engaged in entrepreneurship. This new podcast is streamed on the area’s YouTube channel and is made available on its Instagram account every Friday at 8 p.m. The podcast is specifically tailored to Academy students, offering a valuable resource for their entrepreneurial development. During the tour, Eric and Craig served as special guests on the podcast. It was incredible to hear their insights!

Country Director Alex Cavalcante and Regional Coordinator Sergio Ramos also participated as guides on the tour. Each participant shared their vast knowledge and experience with the students and business owners that were visited.

Craig and Eric taught the Start Now program to an excited group of 30 students in Palmares and were able to visit almost a dozen different student businesses in the state of Pernambuco. It is always amazing to go into a business and see the 25 Rules of Thumb posted on a member’s wall and hear them talk about how valuable these rules and the Academy have been in their success as a business.

The businesses visited ranged from a toy store that specializes in collectibles to a large box manufacturer. The enthusiasm and dedication these entrepreneurs had for their businesses were impressive.

Participants on the tour were also able to participate in a devotional with the area’s self-reliance manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and give an introduction of the Academy to outgoing missionaries of both of the Recife missions for the Church.

“For anyone considering taking a SCOPE tour, it is well worth your time and effort. To see the work of the Academy firsthand and witness the impact the organization is having on the lives of our students and their families is priceless. The work of the Academy continues to move forward in Brazil, and it was a huge blessing to have been a small part of it!”
— Eric
