After graduation, I started a 9-to-5 job, but I was struggling. My health was poor, and I didn’t have enough money. I knew I needed to make a change. I decided to learn a new skill so I could earn a better living. At first, I tried to learn sewing, but it was tough. Then, I got the chance to learn how to make cleaning products. I saw a vast market waiting to be tapped and a need for quality, locally produced products. That’s when I knew what to do!
This was the start of my new journey. I was excited to learn and work hard to achieve my goals.
After my first training, I knew I needed more knowledge to create a product that would truly meet consumers’ needs. I took additional training and kept working hard, even when it was difficult and I wasn’t making any profit. I wanted to make sure my business was successful, so I kept trying to improve my products.
As the business gradually generated a little profit, I remained committed to delivering quality products. However, I still had doubts about whether my business was profitable enough to support my family.
That’s when I discovered the Academy chapter in my stake. Joining the chapter was a game-changer. I learned fundamental business principles that were easy to follow, such as keeping good records and separating business and personal finances. These principles helped me gain clarity and confidence in my business. I was excited to apply these new skills and take my business to the next level.
Through hard work and determination, I’ve successfully built and sustained my business, and it continues to grow. As a result, I’ve become a mentor and role model for other small business owners. My business has had a profound impact on my personal life, giving me the opportunity to take care of my family, pay my tithes, and contribute to my community.
Last year, I won the Academy Award for Starting Entrepreneur in our region. This experience was overwhelming, but it validated my efforts. The Academy provided valuable training and mentorship from seasoned entrepreneurs, teaching me how to grow and sustain my business.
The chapter meetings, discussions, and opportunity to pitch my business ideas before judges have been transformative. This process has changed my mindset and ideology.
I’m thrilled to share that this year, we’re taking a significant leap forward. We’ve secured a space for production and sales of our products, and we’ll be moving in within the next week. I’m grateful to the Academy for its ongoing support and encouragement.
