Meet marrisa
Marissa Barnuevo
Marissa is a single mother of 3 kids who now lives in the Bicol region of the Philippines. Marissa lost her husband in 2014 and has since been the sole breadwinner for her family. To provide for her family she started a small sewing service business in 2019 making simple curtains, kids’ clothes and hair accessories. After starting her business, Marissa discovered a higher demand for hair accessories compared to her other products. She can produce 50 hair ties a day with her small sewing machine. For the first six months in 2021 her average daily income is 361 pesos. Her problem with this current sewing machine is the limitation on production and recurring repairs to keep it functioning.
Wanted: High Speed Sewing Machine
Marissa’s grant request is for a second hand high speed sewing machine. With this heavy duty and fast sewing machine she can increase her production of hair accessories to 300% or an additional 100 hair ties a day. This would put her average net income to a little bit over 1000 pesos. With a high speed sewing machine she could also make intricate curtains and clothes to add to her service offering.
