2024 marked a significant milestone for the Academy: 25 years of igniting the entrepreneurial spirit and empowering individuals on the path to self-reliance. To commemorate our incredible journey, the Academy hosted a special anniversary celebration in Salt Lake City in April, bringing together donors, friends of the Academy, area directors, special guests, and dedicated staff members who have all played an essential role in advancing our mission.
Honoring a Legacy of Leadership
One of the highlights of the evening was a tribute to Executive Director Robert Heyn, who was honored with a special award recognizing his unwavering dedication and service to the Academy. For over 11 years, Robert has been a driving force behind the Academy’s vision, guiding it through pivotal stages of growth and shaping its impact on countless lives. His leadership has helped transform the Academy from a grassroots initiative into a global organization that empowers individuals to change their lives through entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
Robert’s award is not just a token of appreciation—it represents the enduring influence of a leader who has lived the Academy’s mission and inspired others to do the same. We extend our deepest gratitude to Robert for his ongoing contributions and legacy.
Stories That Inspire
The event also featured moving remarks from speakers who have witnessed and experienced the Academy’s transformative power firsthand. Board member Andy Barfuss shared his heartfelt admiration for the Academy and its mission, affirming his belief in the organization’s lasting value and potential.
Another powerful moment came from one of the Academy’s original members, Peter Caro, who recounted his incredible journey. From living in a pig hovel to launching his own business following his Academy training, Peter’s story is a vivid testament to what’s possible when training and support meet determination. Today, he proudly owns City Art Enterprises, a travel agency and has been able to send each of his children to college in Hawaii, Idaho, and Utah.

Looking ahead, new Academy President Cam Crowther took the stage to share an exciting vision for the next 25 years.
